The Bush administration has not yet made an announcement regarding whether December 26 will be a day off without charge to leave for federal employees. Prior presidents awarded the day off where the date falls on a Friday, and President Bush in both his years in office has given employees extra time off around the Christmas holiday-a half day off last year on December 24 and the entire day off in 2001, when December 24 fell on a Monday. While many employees are awaiting an announcement partly for leave scheduling purposes, the announcement of any extra leave time typically doesn’t come until a matter of days in advance.
