The Partnership for Public Service is accepting nominations through November 29 for the 2025 Service to America awards, or Sammies, a top annual honor for federal employees.

Categories include federal employee of the year, career achievement, emerging leaders, safety, security and international affairs, management excellence, and science, technology and environment.

Finalists are announced each May during Public Service Recognition Week and winners are announced in the fall. A people’s choice award winner is announced earlier, based on a public vote on the finalists after they are announced.

Eligibility criteria, nomination procedures and other information are here.

The Selection Process

The selection process for the Service to America Medals is rigorous and thorough. Nominations are submitted by peers, supervisors, and the public, and are then reviewed by a panel of judges composed of leaders from various sectors. This panel evaluates nominees based on the significance and impact of their achievements, as well as their commitment to public service values. The meticulous selection process ensures that only the most deserving individuals receive recognition.

Impact on Careers

Receiving a Service to America Medal can have a significant impact on the careers of honorees. The recognition not only validates their hard work but also opens up new opportunities for professional growth and advancement. Many past honorees have gone on to take on higher-level positions within the government or have used their newfound visibility to advocate for important causes.

Community and Networking Opportunities

One often overlooked benefit of the Service to America Medals is the sense of community and networking opportunities they provide. Honorees become part of an exclusive group of dedicated professionals who share a commitment to public service. This network can lead to collaborative opportunities, mentorship, and the sharing of best practices, further enhancing the impact of their work.
