The early enrollment period for the Federal Long Term Care Insurance Program ends today (May 15) but the formal open season starts July 1. During the open season many employees and retirees who have paid relatively little attention to the program so far likely will consider it more seriously. One common question arising is whether open seasons will be an annual event, like in the Federal Employees Health Benefits program, or only sporadic, like in the Federal Employees Group Life Insurance program. Employees asking this question say they don’t expect to be ready to decide during the upcoming opportunity and/or would like to wait to see how the program operates for a while before making a decision. For now, the Office of Personnel Management is saying only that it hasn’t scheduled any future open seasons and that it will make any decision later.
