OPM has opened a portal for a cyber position allowing for rotations of between six months and a year for employees with at least one OPM cyber code, or work role in IT, cybersecurity, or other cyber-related functions.

The program, ordered by a 2021 law, is “meant to give cyber employees on-the-job experience to learn new skills or expand current knowledge and skills, and facilitate the sharing of cyber practices among agencies” and consolidates rotation opportunities announced by various agencies, OPM said.

“Employees can find out if they are in cyber-coded positions by looking at their Position Description for the cyber position code(s) or contacting their supervisor or HR Office to inquire,” it said.

Approval by a supervisor and higher-level official will be required and applicants also will need a rating of at least fully successful on their recent annual performance appraisal and a security clearance at the level required for the rotational assignment position.

OPM in March had told agencies to begin work to identify potential positions ahead of the launch of what is to be an annual late-year open season. Agencies also may post available positions at other times, as well.
