Some 2,500 federal fire fighters in grades GS-5 through 7 can expect salary increases due to a revision in the classification of job series GS-0081, the Office of Personnel Management has announced. Most of these fire fighters protect military installations and VA centers. The updated classification reflects the “real life duties and inherent dangers of this professional cadre of employees across the country” since 9/11, said OPM. This will be the first change to the fire fighter series since 1991, OPM added. There is no word yet on just when the raises will be effective.
