Payments Concentrated in Some Agencies, Occupations

The State and Defense Departments were the heaviest users of the student loan reimbursement authority in 2004, followed by Securities and Exchange Commission, Justice Department and Government Accountability Office. Those agencies made about four-fifths of the payments. By occupation, the highest numbers of loan reimbursements were paid to attorneys, followed by GAO analysts, mechanical engineers foreign service political affairs officers, criminal investigators and miscellaneous administration. Those occupations accounted for about two-fifths of the payments.
