Plan Year Has Started for Most

Although many FSA participants will not have payroll deductions into their accounts started until later this month, they will be able to file for reimbursement of eligible expenses incurred after the start of the plan year, which was July 1 for most of them. However, at agencies starting later-for example, DoD employees will have a plan year starting September 1 and will have the first payroll deduction September 20-enrollees will be eligible for reimbursement only from the start of their plan year. Regardless of when an agency’s plan year starts, the individual had to enroll during the open season that ended June 27. The next open season, for the calendar year 2004 plan year, will be November 10-December 8.
