The administration has extended into next May a special pay authority affecting federal employees working in Iraq, waiving normal limits on premium pay. The same authority applies to certain overseas assignments in support of military operations, but an extension regarding assignments in Iraq was needed because that country is no longer deemed an area of active military operations. The overall authority extends through this calendar year but is regularly renewed year-to-year and both the House and Senate are advancing plans to provide another extension.
