The Defense Department has announced procedures for its employees to claim reimbursement for certain Federal Employees Health Benefits premium costs for periods in which they were called to active duty, as authorized under section 519 of Public Law 107-107. Eligible are those who were DoD employees called to active duty for more than 30 days in support of a contingency operation on or after December 8, 1995 and who paid the employee share of the premium either during or after the period of active duty. The policy does not apply to DoD employees currently in an active duty status and those called to active duty in the future, DoD says, nor does it apply to premiums deducted while in a pay status, for example on annual or military leave. The maximum period of eligibility for each period of service is 18 months. Contact personnel offices for further information and claim forms.
