Meanwhile, MSPB has published results of a government-wide employee survey it conducted in 2005, reporting that federal employees understand the missions of their agencies, believe they are important and are highly committed to them—nine-tenths responded positively to questions about those issues. Three-fifths said they are satisfied with their pay, although only two-fifths with their rewards. Overall, 76 percent said they would recommend government as a place to work, up from 52 percent in the prior similar survey in 2000. NASA, EPA and VA employees were the most positive in terms of recommending their own agency as a place to work, with Education, DHS and OPM employees the most negative. MSPB also said that three-fourths of employees believe their agency’s workforce has the knowledge and skills to accomplish its mission—FDIC, Air Force and NASA rated highest with DHS, HUD and OPM the lowest.
