Several agencies that traditionally have been near the top in the annual Best Places to Work in the Federal Government report largely maintained their status in the latest edition—as did several traditionally near the bottom. Among large agencies, NASA, Commerce and State took top rankings; among mid-sized FDIC, GAO and Smithsonian; and among small agencies, the Surface Transportation Board, FMCS and Peace Corps. The bottom three in each category were, respectively: DHS, VA, Army; HUD, Broadcasting Board of Governors, National Archives and Records Administration; and Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board; FEC, Federal Maritime Commission. The rankings, by the good government group Partnership for Public Service, take into account results of the annual federal employee viewpoint survey and break responses into measures of leadership effectiveness, matching employee skills to the agency’s mission, teamwork, innovation, training and development, work-life balance, and several others.
