Retention Incentives the Most Widely Used

Of the three types of incentives, retention incentives were the most widely used, OPM said, accounting for about 17,800, compared with about 3,900 recruitment incentives and about 1,000 relocation incentives. However, the value of relocation incentives on average was the highest of the three—about $11,500, compared with about $8,300 for recruitment incentives and about $5,400 for retention incentives. By agency, the heaviest users are Defense, VA, DHS, State and HHS—the former two alone accounted for about two-thirds of the payments made.
