Several relatively small agencies whose missions are narrowly focused again were the top-ranking places to work in a report from the Partnership for Public Service, a non-profit group that largely used data from a recent government-wide employee survey. The top ten were: Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Government Accountability Office, Securities and Exchange Commission, National Aeronautics and Space Administration, Department of Justice, Department of State, Social Security Administration, General Services Administration, Environmental Protection Agency, and Department of the Army. SSA was the most improved among that category, while the Small Business Administration ranked last and DHS next to last. Among very small agencies, the top-ranked were the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, the Merit Systems Protection Board and Office of Management and Budget. The rankings are based on categories including effective leadership, strategic management, teamwork, training and development, pay and benefits, and work/life balance.
