Some Changes in Participation Coming

The Office of Personnel Management already has indicated that there will be some changes in the participating carriers in 2003, with more than a dozen plans due to drop out, several others eliminating certain options, and about 15 HMOs reducing their coverage areas. However, about the same number of HMOs will expand their coverage areas, and several new plans and plan options also will be introduced. Enrollees will have an open season from November 11 to December 9 to change plans or plan options and to change between self-only and self and family coverage. Those eligible for FEHB who currently don’t participate will have the opportunity during the open season to join the program, as well.
