Officials say there are some twists to bear in mind when considering the maximums that employees may put in the two types of FSA accounts that will be allowed. The maximum annual contribution toward a health care FSA will be $3,000, but in that type of FSA, the maximums are cumulative. For example, for a couple in which both spouses work for the government, each could elect up to $3,000, for a total of $6,000. For a couple in which one spouse is eligible for an FSA through another employer, the federal employee could elect up to $3,000 and the spouse could elect up to the maximum under that employer’s plan.
