A backlog that developed in the processing of claims and other correspondence in the special rate back pay suit settlement has been cleared out and routine correspondence is now being answered within a week of its receipt. The settlement administrator received what was termed an “extraordinarily high” volume of correspondence in the spring, causing delays in response. The back pay case involves those who were in special rate positions from October 1, 1981-September 30, 1988 and who had their annual raises improperly capped or denied during that period. Letters were sent out in the spring to individuals in a database of employees, former employees and survivors in the class showing how much they stand to get under the settlement-in most cases several thousand dollars, but in a few, substantially more.
