An MSPB publication says that it’s a myth that telework negatively affects federal employees’ productivity and that in general the opposite is true–that employees who work away from the regular worksite are in fact more productive. MSPB said that survey data show that 72 percent of employees who telework believe they are more productive, while 81 percent of employees who don’t telework say that teleworking of others hasn’t hampered their own productivity. Neither group said there was an issue with employees who are in the office being expected to cover work for employees who aren’t, and supervisors and managers overall said telework has a neutral to positive impact on productivity, recruitment and retention, MSPB said. Bills to further encourage federal telework have passed both the House and Senate in somewhat differing versions.
