The Senate Veterans Affairs Committee has passed, as part of a larger
veterans benefits bill (S-2969), several proposed changes in VA personnel
authorities for medical personnel. The bill would improve salaries for
certain positions, impose limitations on overtime duty and amend policies
governing weekend duty and alternative work schedules for nurses, expand
certain educational assistance programs, revise procedures for conducting
locality pay surveys, waive the salary offset for rehiring annuitants into
health care positions, and set new standards for appointment s of physicians,
among other changes.
