I retired from the military and elected to have money taken out my retirement pay for survival benefits. 15 years ago I elected to sell my years and combine it with my civilian time. Will my wife still get 50% of my military pay when I die? (The allotment is still coming out of my retirement check for survival benefits.) Or should I request the money back I spent selling my military time? Blocked by moderator

If you are active duty retired, you do not waive your retired military pay until you retire from your civilian position. The two retirements will not be combined until you retire from your civilian position. And at that time, you can decide if you wish to continue with that decision or have the deposit you made for your active duty military service refunded to you. If you decide to merge them together, your spouse will have to agree with that decision as she will only collect one survivor benefit. Blocked by moderator

In order to be vested under FERS, you need 5 years of civilian service for a regular retirement however, if applying for disability you only need 18 months. Any military time for which a deposit was completed, is outside the civilian service requirement and will add to your retirement computation. Blocked by moderator
