My wife and I both work for the DoD. I have always carried a FEHB family plan for our health insurance and was planning to take a self plus one plan into retirement. Do I have to select a survivor annuity for my FERS in order for my wife to be eligible to keep FEHB if I die before her? Blocked by moderator

The rules for keeping FEHB say 1) you must be a federal employee and 2) you must have been covered by FEHB the last five years prior to retiring. Your wife will meet both those criteria and should you pass away before her, she will be able to pick up FEHB under her own name without you having to leave her a survivor benefit.
