How is military deployment time (LWOP status) counted for FERS retirement.

I am retiring from federal service, and have already bought back my active duty time (5 years) from before I joined the federal workforce as a civilian. But while a federal civilian and a military reservist, I was mobilized/deployed twice on active duty (put on LWOP: KG or KA). Does this time count towards my retirement? Do I need to buy it back like I did my initial active duty time?

First, thank you for your service. You are correct that you must make a deposit for the two periods where you military service interrupted your civilian service and this must be done prior to your retirement. If you decide to not make the deposit, the time will not count as civilian time either.
