I continued FEGLI in retirement, now personnel office wants me to sign and return SF 2819?

I’ve been retired 4 months – now personnel wants me to sign and return SF 2819. I think I should only sign and return SF 2819 if I want to terminate FEGLI and convert? Who is correct? Thanks!

The SF-2819 is Notice of Conversion Privilege and should be completed for every employee retiring. It just shows they have given you the opportunity to convert, if you wanted to. Here is a portion of the instructions for this form: If this notice is prepared for a retiring employee, forward Part 2 (duplicate) to OPM with the employee’s retirement papers. Otherwise, place Part 2
(duplicate) in the employee’s Official Personnel Folder.
