I want to move my beneficiary TSP account into my civilian TSP account.

I have a beneficiary TSP account and my own civilian TSP account. I learned recently that if if I were to die, my beneficiary would be taxed heavily on the beneficiary one, so I’d like to combine them to the civilian TSP. How do I do that? And without a tax hit, myself?

Thanks for asking the question. Like you, I knew that a beneficiary participant could roll their beneficiary participant account into their own TSP, but did not know the procedure. In the section on "inter-plan rollovers" in the TSP booklet "Your TSP Account: A Guide for Beneficiary Participants", the TSP states that you should contact the Thriftline to get the process started. Apparently, none of their forms or "wizards" are set up for such a transfer. The Thriftline's number is (877) 968-3778.
