Can I transfer money into my TSP account while separated and receiving monthly payments?

The TSP Investor’s Handbook ( Mar.2016) p.13 states that TSP participants who are separated and are receiving monthly payments, cannot transfer money from another qualified account into the TSP. TSP representatives state that in the above scenario, the account still has a balance, therefore it is classified as an open account. Any open account can receive qualified transfers. Please clarify.

You and the TSP representatives are correct. There was a change a couple of years ago that allowed those who were receiving monthly payments to transfer qualified funds into the TSP. Prior to that, they were not able to do so.
