Donate appreciated objects. If you donate property that you’ve held for more than

one year, and that property has appreciated in value, you can deduct the full value

of the property as of the date of the contribution. The IRS says this is the price

at which property would change hands between a willing buyer and a willing seller.


Donate to a public charity. You can deduct the fair market value of the contributed

items if you donate them to a public rather than a private charity. Check IRS
