Retirement & Financial Planning Report

If you’re buying or leasing a car, your expenses aren’t limited to the purchase price. You’ll have to buy insurance, too, and coverage varies widely from one car to the next:

* The most expensive cars to insure, according to Insure.com, are the Porsche 911 Carrera GT2 2-door coupe, the Mercedes S65 AMG 4-door sedan, and the Dodge Viper SRT-10 2-door coupe. The average cost to insure these cars, assuming a good driving record, is nearly $3,000 a year.

* The least expensive cars to insure are the Mazda Tribute 4-door utility vehicle, the Honda Odyssey LX 5-door van, and the Chrysler Town & Country LX 4-door wagon. You can insure these for just over $1,000 a year, on average.

* Among the top-selling vehicles, the least expensive to insure is the Honda CR-V (less than $1,200 a year) while the Ford F-Series pickup is the most expensive to insure among the top 10: almost $1,500 a year.
