Medigap insurance policies can help fill the gaps in basic Medicare coverage. Such policies tend to be expensive but there are low-cost options:
* Medigap plans K and L have relatively low premiums. They require policyholders to pay certain amounts for medical care before the insurance coverage is effective.
* Medigap plans F and J have high-deductible versions. Again, you’d pay lower premiums but you’ll pay more if you need medical care.
* This June, new Medigap plans M and N will be introduced. They’ll cost less and have leaner benefits than some other Medigap plans.
All of these plans give healthy seniors more low-cost Medigap options. Seniors can choose original Medicare, which allows enrollees to see doctors of their choice, and rely on Medigap for expanded coverage. The low-cost plans may be especially appealing to Medicare participants who have been or will be driven out of Medicare Advantage plans by reduced federal payments.
