Federal Manager's Daily Report

OMB has announced an upgrade to its government performance transparency website that tracks priority areas of focus — acquisition, financial management, HR, technology, performance improvement, open government, sustainability, and customer service.

These can be tracked individually by agency as well, and can now be tracked quarterly rather than just annually. For example, for the goal of hiring the best talent, manager satisfaction with applicant quality can be tracked from quarter to quarter, showing modest but steady improvement from the third quarter of fiscal 2011 to the second quarter of fiscal 2012.

The website is also now identifying individuals that are responsible for the success of discrete agency goals. For example, the Agriculture Department lists helping agricultural communities to find foreign markets and increase exports as a goal, and identifies the deputy undersecretary for farm and foreign agricultural services, Darci Vetter, as the lead in charge of managing progress on that goal.

OMB is now attempting to provide greater context for the goals chosen as well such as why it was selected, how progress is being made, which programs are contributing to the effort, and what steps are being taken to make further progress.
