The claims-processing backlog would be reduced, under provisions of the Obama administration’s proposed 2015 budget for the Department of Veterans Affairs. Included are requests for $291 million in new technology, $136 million for the Veterans Claims Intake Program, and $155 million for the next-generation Veterans Benefits Management System. Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric K. Shinseki hopes to establish a new benchmark of 125 days to resolve each benefits claim to 125 days, with 98-percent accuracy.
