Two persons – one male sailor and a male civilian – are dead after a March 24 shooting incident at Norfolk Naval Station, Va. A preliminary report by the Navy stated that security forces killed the male civilian, who was identified as a “suspect.” The shooting took place at 11:20 p.m. on board the Arleigh Burke-class destroyer Mahan, which was docked at Pier 1 at the time. No one else was injured. While security forces responded to the incident, the base was locked down for about 45 minutes. The incident is under investigation.
