Each of the four armed services under the Defense Department either met or exceeded recruiting and accession goals for December. Among the active components, the Navy and Air Force met their goals, with 2,384 new accessions for each branch. The Marines signed 2,221, slightly ahead of its target, and the Army reported 487 new accessions, ahead of its goal of 403. The Army Guard was the only reserve component branch to fall short, reporting 4,175 new accessions – slightly below its goal of 4,319. The Army Reserve, however, exceeded its goal of 2,050 by 203, while the The Air Force Reserve met its goal exactly with 917 accessions, as did the Navy Reserve, with 917. The Air Guard reported 692 accessions, ahead if its goal of 450, while the Marine Corps Reserve reported 767 accessions, ahead of its goal of 592.
