The Air Force plans to process permanent-change-of-station (PCS) orders at one central location at the Air Force Personnel Center on Randolph Air Force Base, Texas, in an effort to make sure that the number of orders does not exceed what the current budget allows. The action will enable personnel officials “to balance the PCS budget and ensure the availability of sufficient PCS funds to cover Air Force obligations,” said Lt. Col. Sean McElhaney, a division chief in the assignment support office. PCS orders will be processed normally as long as budgeted funds are available to pay for them. Beyond that, approvals would be made on a case-by-case basis in September. Those PCS orders that are not approved in September will become available for approval in October, through funding from the service budget for the new fiscal year that begins Oct. 1. The change does not affect airmen entering the service, separating, or retiring.
