Airmen will no longer be allowed to ask the service to assign them to specific duty stations, in exchange for their willingness to use their own leave and pay their own moving expenses. The Air Force announced the end of so-called permissive PCS (permanent change of station) moves, which for years were granted on a limited basis, on Sept. 28. Two factors weighed in the decision to end permissive PCS moves: a stable budget, and the desire of service leadership to end a program that required members to pay out-of-pocket for services available for free in all other circumstances.
