The Air Force needs to reduce end-strength to 329,460 for fiscal year 2013, which began last Oct. 1 and continues through Sept. 30. To reach that number, the service is implementing voluntary force management reduction programs for both officers and enlisteds, with the goal of reducing strength by 3,340. Officers of certain year groups in overstaffed career fields will be able to take advantage of time-in-grade waivers (for lieutenant colonels), limited active-duty service commitment waivers, transfers to the Air National Guard or Air Force Reserve, and the 10 to 8 Commissioned Years of Service Waiver program, the service announced. Enlisteds in non-critical specialties will be offered time-in-grade waivers, waivers to enlisted contracts, and transfers to the Air National Guard or Air Force Reserve. Applications are due Aug. 1. Approved separations must be complete by Sept. 29. Those approved to retire must leave the service by Sept. 1. More information is available online at https://mypers.af.mil.
