The Air Force will convene an officer-reduction board June 16, to reduce strength to levels set by Congress. The board will review records of captains in groups 2005 through 2008 in line of the Air Force, biomedical sciences, dental, medical, medical service, and nurse corps. Eligible majors include line of the Air Force officers from year groups 2001 through 2003, and certain officers from the other career fields from year groups 1997 through 2003. The eligibility pool excludes officers with fewer than six years’ service, or more than 18 years’ total active service as of Jan. 31, 2015. Also excluded are officers on approved promotion lists who have less than a year time in grade as of Jan. 31, 2015, and those who are eligible for retirement or within two years of eligibility by the mandatory separation date. Those selected for separation may apply for separation effective Sept. 29, or TERA between Jan. 4 and March 26. Selectees will not have to repay education, permanent-change-of-station, or other funds associated with service-commitment programs. However, they will have to repay Post 9/11 GI Bill benefits paid to families in some cases.
