Previously, the Senate Armed Services Committee would confirm
promotion lists within three months of the date a promotion
board completed its deliberations regardless of the actual
pin–on dates. The Air Force secretary and chief of staff
would be briefed on the board’s results, and the list would
continue through the coordination process to the Secretary
of Defense for approval. Under the new procedures, any list
of officers not scheduled for promotion within nine months
will be returned to the Air Force Personnel Center and held
until the first day of the ninth month before the promotions
begin. The AFPC then will return the nomination package to
the Secretary of Defense for signature and release to the public.
