The Air Force has activated the 79th Expeditionary Rescue Squadron during an April 22 ceremony at Camp Bastion, Afghanistan. The unit, which arrived in country on March 29 and began operations April 8, uses two HC-130P aircraft to evacuate wounded service members to facilities that can provide higher levels of care as quickly as possible. The new unit consists of more than 80 air crew members, aircraft maintainers, and pararescuemen.
