The Air Force is seeking more officers to train for an additional specialty in international affairs. Interested officers should update their transitional officer development plan to show their desires, either to become a Political-Military Affairs Strategist (PAS) or a Regional Affairs Strategist (RAS). Each will be trained to be international political-military advisors, but an RAS also must be proficient in a foreign language. The Air Force wants 42 officers with seven to 10 years of commissioned service for the RAS career option and 75 who are intermediate developmental education selects with 10 to 12 years of commissioned service for the PAS path. The first group of 87 will start training this summer.
