The Air Force plans to allow female members time away from their careers to start a family. The so-called Pilot Career Intermission Program is patterned after a similar one adopted by the Navy. “Why don’t we have a program that allows them … to separate from the Air Force for a short period of time, get the family started, then come back,” Lt. Gen Samuel Cox said at a May 15 breakfast event in Arlington, Va., sponsored by the Air Force Association. Details are still being developed. Once the program becomes fully operational, both male and female members would be allowed to apply for the leave.
