The Air Force wants to recall Reserve and Air National Guard loadmasters voluntarily to extended active duty, to fill manpower shortages in the career field. Under the plan, the service would allow 110 Air reserve component loadmasters to re-enter active duty for one- or two-year tours. The increase would bring loadmasters to 95 percent, up from 85 percent, by Oct. 1, 2013. To qualify, applicants must hold the rank of master sergeant or below, be current or qualified on their major weapon system, have fewer than 16 years of total active military federal service by the end of their active-duty period, and have a current flying Class III physical.
