In the wake of the June 5 resignations of Air Force Secretary Michael W. Wynne and Chief of Staff Gen. T. Michael Moseley, Air Force Association president Michael M. Dunn praised their service to the nation and admonished Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates for firing them for their outspokenness. "We believe there is more to the firings than meets the eye," Dunn, a retired lieutenant general, wrote on the AFA Web site. "Gates has an obligation to show what it was that justifies such drastic action," Dunn wrote. It is likely, Dunn believes, that Wynne and Moseley lost their jobs because they continuously pressed for recapitalization of the Air Force’s aging fleet of aircraft. "It is apparent," he wrote, "That the Defense Department did not appreciate the military advice nor the warnings they were getting. We believe the administration should listen to the message – not shoot the messengers
