Pentagon leaders plan to assess the situation in Afghanistan before determining how many U.S. troops would remain in the country after 2014. Defense Secretary Leon E. Panetta will present the White House with an official proposal for troop strength after discussing options with Marine Corps Jen. John R. Allen, the commander of the NATO International Security Assistance Force (ISAR), Defense Department spokesman George Little said Nov. 26. The decision on force configurations in Afghanistan ultimately rests with President Obama, Little said. In the meantime, troop reductions will continue.
