In the midst of a drawdown of 40,000 Air Force officers and enlisted members to help fund an aging fleet of aircraft, Air Force secretary, Michael W. Wynne said Sept. 19 that the plan is not working. Furthermore, the scheduled increase in end strength of the Army and Marine Corps by 92,000, has created a new factor, said Air Force Chief of Staff, Gen. T. Michael Moseley. “We cannot see our way clear to further reductions, said Wynne Sept. 24 at the 2007 Air & Space Conference in Washington, D.C. Officials are looking at a possible halt of reductions in 2008. This would leave the Air Force strength at 328,000 instead of the planned 316,000.
