Grooming and appearance regulations have been relaxed for airmen. The changes were motivated by the desire to both enhance inclusiveness and maintain professional standards, service officials announced.
The changes include:
* Authorization to dye hair in several natural colors, to include brown, blonde, brunette, natural red, black or gray.
* Relaxation of the standard length of men’s hair to two inches, from an inch and a quarter.
* Men’s hair can have one cut, clipped or shaved straight-line part on either side of the head, above the temple. The part cannot exceed four inches in length and one-quarter inch in width, and cannot be slanted or curved.
* The bulk standard for women’s hair is increased to four inches from 3.5
