Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, the Army psychiatrist who is the prime suspect in the Nov. 5 shooting rampage that killed 13 persons and wounded another 30, has been charged with 13 counts of premeditated murder. Though severely injured by a civilian police officer who shot him numerous times during the incident, Hasan is described as awake and able to speak. Meanwhile, President Obama called for a thorough review of the incident. Investigators will be given free rein to probe into reports that Hasan’s erratic behavior possibly should have given authorities cause for concern before the attack occurred. "If there was a failure to take appropriate action before the shootings, there must be accountability," Obama said Nov. 14. He also stressed that probers should examine possible ways to prevent any future similar occurrences.
