The Navy has reduced the number of awards and decorations given to the late Chris Kyle, the SEAL who became known as the “American Sniper.” USA Today reported July 8 that an internal review determined Kyle had overstated the number of such honors he received when he filled out his DD-214 form in 2009. Kyle, who died in 2013, had stated that he earned two Silver Star and five Bronze Star medals. The investigation determined that he actually had earned one Silver Star and four Bronze Stars. It is unclear how or why the errors occurred.
