The deployments of the Fort Bragg, N.C.-based 82nd Airborne Division Headquarters and the Fort Stewart, Ga.-based 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom have been extended 50 days and two weeks respectively, the Army announced. The extensions will enable the Army to allow the units that replace them to accrue the desired yearlong dwell time before deploying to replace them. Those replacement units – the Fort Campbell, Ky.-based 101st Airborne Division Headquarters and the Fort Drum, N.Y.-based 10th Combat Aviation Brigade, will deploy sometime late next spring. Once the changes are completed, the units will spend a year deployed and then two years at home. The new rotations will also be implemented without imposing stop-loss on soldiers who are involved.
