The Army has selected BAE Systems Land and Armaments of Troy, Mich., and General Dynamics Land Systems Inc., of Sterling Heights, Mich., to develop designs over the next two years for the planned Army Infantry Fighting Vehicle. The contracts represent the first step in a seven-year process that would culminate with delivery of a cost-effective next-generation vehicle, able to resist improvised explosive devices and capable of carrying nine-soldier squads, to the inventory.
