Interest in Command Slots Beginning in September, Army colonels and lieutenant colonels who wish to be considered for command positions must make their wishes known. In past years, these field-grade officers were considered automatically for command positions and other key jobs. Now, participants in the Brigade and Battalion Command Centralized Selection List system must "opt in." The Army Senior Leader Development Division and Human Resources Command each will consider eligible officers who opt in, and fill available positions accordingly. The O-5 (lieutenant colonel) fires and effects board, force sustainment board, and operational support board each will meet in September; the comparable O-6 (colonel) boards will meet in January.
