All active and reserve components of the armed forces either met or exceeded their recruiting goals for January, as well as the Air National Guard. The Army National Guard fell short. The 4,913 soldiers who joined the Guard last month represent 88 percent of projected goals. Guard officials are not concerned, however. “We are over our end strength and can slow down on recruiting,” said Randy Noller, a Guard spokesman. The Active Army signed 9,658 members; the Navy signed 2,948 active and 712 reserve sailors; the Marine Corps signed 3,720 active and 879 reserve members; the Air Force signed 2,600 active, 683 reserve and 896 Air Guard airmen in January.
